Stimming I Ein Tanzworkshop mit Xan Dye

Event   November 3, 2024, 13:00 – 15:00

Workshop: 03.11.2024, 13:00-15:00

Inspired by the exhibition Jetzt und Nie, we invite you to explore the practice of Stimming with artist Xan Dye. Stimming is a movement practice involving rhythmic, repetitive impulses that can serve, among other things, as a form of self-regulation.

This workshop offers a space to experience movement anew as a form of physical resonance and expression. In connection with themes from the exhibition, which highlights transitions between past and future, we’ll explore Stimming as a dance practice.

No prior dance experience is required! This workshop is open to anyone who wishes to strengthen or deepen their connection with their body, and neurodivergent individuals are especially welcome. Admission is free.

Organized by Larissa Humbert

Xan Dye is an independent artist whose practice explores movement as sensory experience. This practice emerged from a time in Xan's life when they were learning about their neurodivergence, and beginning to explore what a movement and performance practice could offer them in relation to this. Their ongoing research project STIMMING explores what we can learn from the rhythmic, repetitive, sensory seeking movements that we do, consciously or unconsciously, to self regulate and seek sensation. These self-regulatory movements are known as stimming, and may be particularly important for neurodivergent people. By framing stimming as dance, and dance as stimming, Xan explores how they can carve out ways of doing and making dance which offer comfort, oblivion, release and flow. To Xan, this a neuro-quering practice which challenges norms and assumptions about what dance is, and who can participate in dance professionally.

The outreach program at Halle für Kunst Lüneburg e.V. is made possible by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture, the VGH Foundation, and Aktion Mensch.
